Abstract

OBJECTIVE: This study aims to examine the academic career awareness of undergraduate students in speech and language therapy.

METHODS: A total of 103 speech and language therapy students (81 females, 22 males; mean age: 22.8±2.3 years; range, 21 to 39 years) studying at universities were included in this study. Participants filled out a personal information form and the Academic Career Awareness Scale in Higher Education.

RESULTS: No statistically significant difference was found between the scale dimensions according to the sex of the participants, the type of university they attended, the type of high school they graduated from, the employment status of the mother and father, and the educational status of the mother and father (all p>0.05).

CONCLUSION: It was observed that the participants had academic career awareness but not at the desired level. There is a need for training and activities in universities that will increase the academic career awareness of students.
