Abstract

Amyloidosis is a pathology that is characterized by abnormal extracellular protein deposition. Isolated laryngeal amyloidosis is rarely associated with systemic disease. In this article, we present a 64-year-old female case who was admitted to our clinic with complaints of sore throat, hoarseness and dysphagia. At physical examination, a yellowish lesion about 1x1 cm was viewed, which was originated from right arytenoid cartilage and reached left arytenoid cartilage, and then right ventricular fold. The lesion was excised with microlaryngoscopic approach. It was evaluated as amyloidosis at the histopathologic examination. Laryngeal amyloidosis should be kept in mind in differential diagnosis of patients with complaints of sore throat and hoarseness. Patients should be investigated in terms of systemic disease before the diagnosis of localized laryngeal amyloidosis. Patients should be followed up regularly due to the recurrence frequency after the surgery.
