Abstract
Vestibular system dysfunction presents with dizziness, vertigo, visual disorders and balance problems. Balance is provided by synchronized performance of vestibular, ocular and proprioceptive systems. Any insufficiency in one of these systems should be compensated by another system for continuation of balance. Therefore, vestibular rehabilitation means adaptation, substitution or habituation. The weak system is detected and the stronger system is reinforced for compensation. In this article, we collected the reasons, explanatory theories and corrective maneuvers, exercises, and therapy methods for unilateral vestibular dysfunction, particularly benign paroxysmal positional vertigo.
